Apsley Riverview Hostel

Apsley Riverview Hostel - Walcha is a 31 bed low care facility nestled in the New England region of northern NSW. Walcha has a town population of 1800, with 3200 in the district. Demographics show Walcha as having a high aged population which is increasing; in fact Walcha has been statistically named as having one of the highest longevity figures in Australia.
This encouraged the Management Committee in 2001 to begin the process of increasing the bed numbers at Riverview from 21 to 31. The extensions were opened in November 2004.
		Riverview has always been fortunate to enjoy enormous support from a very generous community which greatly assists in providing a loving, comfortable homelike environment. Along with a band of "couldn't do without" volunteers, 23 enthusiastic staff assist Manager Jennie Johnston in providing the residents with many in-house and outdoor activities.
Riverview residents enjoy monthly picnics to local grazing properties. Many of them have family still living on the land or have worked on these properties in their lifetime. They love to reminisce and get back into the countryside which has been a huge part of their lives.
		Riverview consists of 5 wings which lead to a large lounge and dining area centrally located within the facility. Each wing also has its own sitting room, all with beautiful large windows allowing the warmth of the sun to come in. Each of the 31 resident rooms have ensuites with 20 rooms having glass sliding door access into the lush New England gardens surrounding the hostel. Walcha is a proud, vibrant and active community and this is clearly evident when you enter Riverview and feel the happiness and warmth within.
