Residential Low Care

Presbyterian Aged Care provides residential care services for over 720 people in high care (nursing home) and low care (hostel) aged care facilities. Increasingly, PAC's residential care services cater for residents with multiple chronic health conditions, including dementia.

Residential care services are funded by the Australian Department of Health & Ageing and administered under the Aged Care Act.

Ageing in Place
Low Care (Hostel)

Ageing in Place

At Presbyterian Aged Care we practice the philosophy of 'ageing in place'. This means that we strive to provide continuity of care in order to support the changing care needs of residents, by providing, when and where possible,   resident?s care needs within their existing environment,  without having to displace them from their friends, their spouse, or from familiar surroundings.

However, at times, it is appropriate to transfer a resident to another part of the aged care program or Home, such as from Hostel to Nursing Home, or to our Special Care Unit. This is always done in consultation with the Resident, their relatives and their medical and care team.

Low Care (hostel)

Low Level Residential Care is available for older people with reduced mobility or independence. We provide accommodation, general cleaning and laundering of bed linen, as well as meals and access to personal care when needed. Residents can participate in the arranged activities or pursue their own interests outside the facility. Our low care facilities can also provide ageing in place as residents' needs increase.

How do I enter a Residential Care Facility?
High and low dependency care require an assessment by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). It is important that this assessment is done first because that dictates the level of care needed. When completed, telephone Presbyterian Aged Care to discuss your situation and we will send out the appropriate forms to complete. After this, PAC will arrange our own internal assessment. This identifies particular needs that helps us match the person's needs with the best facility to cater for them - for example, some people require specialised dementia care; some people are not able to walk long distances. Once the application process is complete, we will maintain contact with you regarding vacancies and your current situation.

There can be a wait varying from a few weeks to up to several months for residential care, depending on the preferred location.  Rooms are allocated on the basis of individual need and the suitability of any vacancy to each person's situation.
