Community Care Services

Presbyterian Aged Care currently provides three types of comminity care services to assist older people to continue to live independently in the community.

  1. Community Aged Care Packages
  2. Day Therapy
  3. Day Respite

Community Aged Care Packages

Community Aged Care Packages (CACP) give older Australians the option to stay at home longer instead of entering residential care.  CACPs are funded by the Australian Department of Health & Ageing and administered under the Aged Care Act.

A CACP can provide a package of services tailored to meet your needs, such as shopping, transportation, meals, bathing and cleaning.  Our Service Coordinators work with each client to establish the best package for them.

To be eligible for a CACP you will have to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team, and, if a CACP is appropriate, they will be able to arrange a referral for you to a service coordinator.

What does a Community Aged Care Package cost?
Fees for CACPs are regulated by the Australian Government.  If you are on the basic pension, we cannot charge more than 17.5% of that pension.  If you have higher income you may be asked to pay more.  PAC bills monthly for services provided.  Details of the costs for a CACP are available on request.

We provide CACPs at Ashfield/Drummoyne; Stockton, Newcastle and Walcha Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Day Therapy Centres

Day Therapy Centres provide a program of therapy and recreational services in a day centre.  Day Therapy Centres are funded by the Australian Department of Health & Ageing and administered under a contract with the government.

Therapy services can include mobility and strength programs as well as access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other allied health professionals.  Clients have individual programs developed, but also have the opportunity to participate in group activities that help keep the mind as well as the body active.  Transport may also be provided.

While people can self-refer to our Day Therapy programs, we ask for a confirmation from your doctor that you would benefit from the program.

What does attendance at Day Therapy Cost?
There is a daily attendance fee charged which covers the cost of meals and a contribution toward the cost of the program. Fees are charged monthly.  Details are available on request.

Day Therapy Centres are available in Ashfield/Canada Bay LGAs & Stockton.

Day Respite

Day Respite Servicea funded by the Australian Department of Health & Ageing through the National Respite for Carers Program are provided in Ashfield LGA, Canada Bay LGA, Newcastle LGA and Walcha LGA.  Respite Services may be provided either in your own home or in a day centre depending on the area.

The Day Respite Service will provide a varied activity program for clients, giving their carers an opportunity for a break. There is a capacity to provide extended hours to assist working carers and emergency respite where needed.

What does a Respite Service cost?
Fees are charged following an assessment to assist with running the program.  No one is denied service on the basis of financila disadvantage.
